Why You Should Try Group Fitness Training
As seasoned fitness professionals, we’ve seen the results and know there are big advantages to group fitness. Not to say that people that workout alone don’t also see positive results (of course they can and do!) but there seems to be a little something extra in group workouts that can be really difficult to recreate alone. For beginners and people new to fitness, getting some extra motivation and support can make a huge difference
Why group training can be more beneficial than sweating it out solo at the gym!
- Mental health benefits: friendships, community, teamwork, connection, sharing an experience.
DO IT Fitness’ Janetta Leota is a certified personal trainer with a BA in Psychology, Sociology and Business. She spoke on the benefits of group training, saying: “the mental health benefits of working out in a group are amazing. I’ve trained people solo and I’ve trained people in group settings and without a doubt, the difference in an individual’s mental state after 12 weeks are crazy. Usually, they’re more positive, confident and just seem happier in general. Yes, people that workout alone also see huge improvements but the experience of successfully completing the 12-week challenge together, seeing the mutual respect and support, is so nice to see in a group of people.”
2. Motivation and support: inspiring teammates and trainers to cheer you on.
2020 challenge participant, Anushka said she found working out with others more comfortable than working out alone. “Everybody knows that feeling of just being kind of intimated to get back into fitness and just walk into a gym…when you’ve been away from that sort of lifestyle for so long and you just feel like ‘I’m not going to know how to do this properly and everyone’s going to be watching me’. So, you really do need that safe environment where you can just go and not be afraid that you’re going to be judged or watched. You need a group of likeminded people around you who are going to be with you along that journey.”
3. Having FUN, FUN and more FUN.
We’ve seen it first-hand, group training can be so much more fun than working out on your own. Variety is key to finding a workout program you can stick to. If you’ve struggled to make changes without support or had trouble finding an achievable workout plan before you throw in the towel, why not try group training. What have you got to lose?!
