Upcoming Fitness Events for 2016!
Do you want to push yourself and get yourself out of your comfort zone this year? If you answered yes, perhaps you should look into competing in a fitness event. Here’s a round-up of some of the fun and challenging fitness events around Melbourne that are coming up in 2016!
OXFAM TRAILWALKER | APRIL 8th 2016
The challenging and physically demanding event involves teams of four walking 100kms through Warburton, the Dandenong Ranges and Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. The event aims to raise money to help fight poverty around the world.
SURF COAST TREK | APRIL 9th 2016
This non-competitive 40km trek takes walkers through a diverse range of landscapes including seaside cliffs, beaches, coastal bushland and beautiful rainforests from Aireys Inlet to Torquay. The event raises funds for the Kids Plus Foundation and Give Where You Live.
THE COLOR RUN | APRIL 16th 2016
Held at Flemington Race Course, The Color Run is known as the happiest 5km on the planet. The event celebrates healthiness, happiness and individuality and includes a Zumba warm up and festival.
FITNESS & HEALTH EXPO | APRIL 29th – MAY 1st 2016
The Australian-wide Fitness & Health Expo is soon to be hitting Melbourne. The 3-day ‘fitspiration’ event held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre will share plenty of tips on leading a healthy and active lifestyle and will showcase special guests such as Shannan Ponton, Amanda Bisk and Simeon Panda.
GREAT TRAIN RACE | MAY 1st 2016
In this 13.5km-racing event, you’ll be competing against the iconic steam locomotive, Puffing Billy. Starting in Belgrave, this nature run will bring you through the mystical Dandenong Ranges, all the way through to Emerald lake Park. All proceeds from the race go towards the Puffing Billy Menzies Creek Museum Redevelopment project.
MOTHER’S DAY CLASSIC | MAY 8th 2016
Held at Alexandra Gardens, this 4km or 8km walk & run raises money for research into the prevention and treatment of breast cancer with the National Breast Cancer Foundation. So grab your mum or your friends, dress up in pink and head out for a fun-filled day running around The Tan.
WANDERLUST FESTIVAL | MAY 14th 2016
The Wanderlust Festival is a day for the mind, body and soul. The fun-filled and challenging triathlon involves a 5km run, yoga and meditation aim to help energize you. Also, expect plenty of activities, local food and crafts.
GREAT OCEAN ROAD MARATHON | MAY 14th – 15th 2016
This iconic marathon heads through the beautiful coastal scenery of the famous Great Ocean Road. The event is for participants of all fitness levels and ages, with the distances ranging from just 1.5km through to 60km.
SPARTAN RACE | JUNE 4th 2016
The Spartan Race is a physically and mentally challenging obstacle course. There are three different levels to choose from – including the 7km Sprint, 14km Super and 21km Beast.
RUN MELBOURNE | JULY 24th 2016
This run aims to raise as much money as possible for the chosen charity closest to you. There’s a run for everyone, including the 3km Kids event, 5km run/walk, 10km run or Brooks Half-Marathon.
AROUND THE BAY | OCTOBER 9th 2016
Around the Bay is Australia’s largest bike ride that caters for all levels and styles of riders. The race options start from 20km to the iconic 250km loop of the bay.
MELBOURNE MARATHON | OCTOBER 16th 2016
The Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival hosts a variety of races including the full marathon, half marathon, 10km run, 5.7km run and 3km walk. The events take place around the Royal Botanic Gardens, MCG and the CBD.
TOUGH MUDDER | NOVEMBER 19th & 20th 2016
If you want to challenge yourself and get muddy – this obstacle course is for you! The 18km mud and obstacle course are designed to drag you out of your comfort zone and challenge your physical strength, stamina and mental grit.
CITY2SEA | NOVEMBER 20th 2016
The City2Sea 15km course runs from the Melbourne CBD to St Kilda. The event helps to raise funds for innovative brain cancer research that will help get new treatments to patients faster.
MUDDERELLA | DECEMBER 3rd 2016
This 8-11km obstacle mud run was created for women, by women. The event features challenging obstacles that require you to work together with those around you to complete it.
SUSSAN WOMEN’S FUN RUN | DECEMBER 4th 2016
This female only fun run turns the St Kilda foreshore pinks as over 6,000 women take part in a 5km, 10km or half marathon course. The run is perfect for those who want to enjoy a day out with their friends and family. The run raises funds for the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
