6 Steps To Build A Positive Body Image
“Beauty is a state of mind, not a state of body”
My motto is “inspiration lies within, love yourself”, so it’s no surprise that I am all about self love. Learning to love yourself is hard to do, but once you do, you’ll open yourself to so many opportunities – in your fitness, career, personal and love life. Learning and accepting who you are is all part of the journey.
1. Appreciate your body
Take a moment and really appreciate your body and all that it can do. It’s a marvellous thing! It keeps you alive, moving, heals itself and allows you to do some amazing things. Also keep in mind, there are people who are a lot less fortunate than you and would love to have your body!
2. Stop comparing yourself to others
It’s way too easy to compare yourself to others these days. Scrolling through Facebook and Instagram, seeing magazines with articles like “How I lost 10 kilograms” and “How I lost the baby weight” and seeing celebrities’ picture-perfect bodies can often leave you feeling down in the dumps. Stop doing this now! This is not helpful for anyone, and even these celebrities have insecurities and compare themselves to other people. The minute you stop comparing to others, and accepting and learning to love yourself, you’ll start to see changes in your mindset. It’s contagious and can become a lifestyle habit.
3. Practice self acceptance
Avoid feeling terrible about yourself and change the negative notations into positive. When you look in the mirror instead of pointing out the things you don’t like about yourself like “I look horrible in this outfit”, instead spin it into something positive by saying “This blue top makes my eyes pop” or “My hair looks amazing” and you’ll start feeling more positive.
4. Make a list
Grab a pen and paper. Without thinking too much about it, quickly write down 10 things you like about yourself. You’ll be pleasantly surprised. Leave it somewhere you’ll see it, and remind yourself daily.
5. Treat yourself
What better way to show yourself how much you love yourself, by taking yourself out for a treat! Whether it be some new clothing to make you feel better, having a night off by going out with some girlfriends, having a nice meal and going to the movie! Whatever makes you feel good.
6. Be positive and kind to yourself
Everyone is always the harshest on themselves. If you were to treat yourself like a friend or family member, you’ll like yourself better. Be kind and positive to yourself – there’s only one of you out there and you’re pretty great!
Those are my tips for building a better body image, did you find it helpful? What do you do to help yourself?
