12-week challenge: shopping tour
The challenge this session was to help the 12-week challengers make healthy and sensible choices while shopping and on a budget. It was also a way for us to understand the food choices challengers made and how to improve these areas.
Reasons we make unhealthy food choices while shopping
We all have busy lifestyles and sometimes it’s easy to go into the shopping centre and purchase pre-packaged frozen foods; go through the chocolate, sweets, chips & soft drink aisles, grab and go.
Making unhealthy food choices is usually the result of going shopping on an empty stomach, not prepping food or leading a busy lifestyle with no time.
4 tips to make smart food choices while shopping
Tip #1
eat at home or buy food before going food shopping. That way you avoid making horrible food choices or like myself eat a snack (mind you it’s a healthy one) while shopping.
Tip #2
Park your car far away from the shopping centre entrance to burn a few calories and avoid arguments with other people over parking spots.
Tip #3
Write down a shopping list and stick to the list.
Tip #4
“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”.
